NCME Signs Two Letter Supporting IES Funding, SBE
This week, NCME signed two letters send to the Capitol to support funding initiatives.
The first, signed along with 96 other organizations, calls for the full apportion of FY25 Institute of Education Sciences funding before it lapses on September 30, 2026. Funding was initially provided to IES but approximately $289 million has yet to be apportioned to program accounts. This makes up roughly 36% of the funding for FY25. The full letter sent to Secretary Linda McMahon from the U.S. Department of Education and Russell Vought from the Office of Management and Budget can be read here.
The second letter pertained to funding of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and potential elimination of the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE). The letter, signed along with 37 other organizations, calls to fund NSF to the fullest extent for FY27, allowing SBE and the research it supports to be retained. The full letter sent to Representatives Tom Cole and Rosa DeLauro and Senators Susan Collins and Patty Murray, all from the Committee on Appropriations, can be read here.
