Call for NCME Volunteers for Two Presidential Initiatives

NCME invites volunteers to serve on two new presidential initiatives for 2026–2027: the Presidential Task Force on Validity, Fairness, and Quality in AI-Integrated Assessment and the NCME International Issues Committee. These initiatives reflect President Kadriye Ercikan’s priorities to advance validity, fairness, and quality in AI-integrated assessment; and expand NCME’s engagement with international measurement communities.

Presidential Task Force on Validity, Fairness, and Quality in AI-Integrated Assessment

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are increasingly embedded in assessment and learning systems, creating both opportunities and risks for validity, fairness, quality, and appropriate use. A central priority for NCME is to ensure that measurement science remains at the forefront of how AI‑integrated assessments are conceptualized, developed, implemented, and evaluated.

The charge to the Presidential Task Force on Validity, Fairness, and Quality in AI‑Integrated Assessment is to develop and advance NCME activities that promote sociocultural responsiveness, validity and fairness as AI-integrated assessments. The Task Force will identify priority issues and opportunities for guidance, capacity building, and collaboration; elevate research and best practices for evaluating AI‑enabled assessment systems (including AI‑supported scoring and AI‑generated content); and foster cross‑disciplinary engagement with AI and data science communities.

  1. Develop an ongoing webinar series on validity, fairness, and quality in AI‑integrated assessment;
  2. Provide training opportunities on AI and data science for measurement professionals, practitioners, and researchers;
  3. Provide training opportunities for AI and data science professionals and researchers on measurement principles that should guide AI applications in assessment;
  4. Organize dedicated conference threads and sessions (e.g., at the 2027 Annual Meeting and the AIME-con) focused on AI‑integrated assessment quality;
  5. Develop practitioner-facing guidance and resources (e.g., checklists, briefs, or exemplars) for evaluating the validity and fairness of AI‑enabled assessment systems; and
  6. Build connections and collaborations with AI and data science professional organizations to support interdisciplinary exchange and joint initiatives.
  7. Collaborate with NCME Committees and SIGIMIEs to find opportunities for collaborations and synergies.

NCME International Issues Committee

The International Issues Committee will support NCME’s goal of expanding and deepening engagement with international measurement communities. The committee will help strengthen global partnerships, broaden perspectives in educational measurement, and ensure that NCME remains responsive to educational challenges and innovations across diverse international contexts. Activities may include organizing conference sessions on international topics, supporting reciprocal exchanges with partner organizations, helping map connections with international measurement associations, and identifying opportunities for cross-national dialogue and collaboration.

NCME welcomes self-nominations from members who are interested in contributing to these initiatives. We encourage participation from members with a range of perspectives, experiences, and career stages, including student members and full members. Volunteers will be selected based on the needs of each group and the goal of creating strong, collaborative, and diverse working groups.
