Moving Measurement Forward: a snapshot of a field in motion
The 2026 theme, Moving Measurement Forward, is both a charge and a recognition: our field is evolving rapidly. Advances in technology, changing policy contexts, and the need to serve increasingly diverse learners are not peripheral pressures—they are central to how measurement must adapt and respond. The contributions included here engage these realities directly, spanning foundational topics such as validity and fairness alongside emerging approaches to assessment design, methodology, and application.
Across these papers, one idea is clear: meaningful progress does not happen in isolation. It is built through collaboration, through the integration of perspectives, and through the willingness to question, refine, and extend our approaches. The NCME community plays a critical role in that process, bringing together voices that collectively drive innovation and strengthen practice.
