SUMMARY:Educators of Measurement SIGIMIE: Cafe AI: An Educators of Measurement SIGIMIE Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:Join the Educators of Measurement SIGIMIE for an informal coffee hour conversation on how faculty are integrating AI in measurement education. \n\n\n\nThis session is an opportunity to connect with colleagues\, exchange ideas\, and explore practical strategies for using AI in the classroom. Whether you’re experimenting with new tools or just starting to explore the possibilities\, all are welcome to join\, share\, and learn. \n\n\n\nDiscussion topics may include: \n\n\n\n\nCreating or adapting course materials using AI\n\n\n\nAI use policies in teaching and learning\n\n\n\nTeaching about the responsible use (and misuse) of AI in measurement contexts\n\n\n\n\nBring your questions\, experiences\, and a cup of coffee—we look forward to the conversation!. \n\n\n\nRSVP

SUMMARY:When Language Models Model Items and Examinees: Methodological Considerations for Evaluation
DESCRIPTION:This is presented by the Artificial Intelligence in Measurement and Education SIGIMIE. \n\n\n\nPre-trained language models (LMs) are opening new avenues for modeling and predicting the psychometric properties of assessment items. These advances offer promising innovations—but also introduce unique challenges when traditional evaluation methods are applied in novel AI-based contexts. \n\n\n\nIn this session\, Dr. Ikkyu Choi (ETS) will explore key methodological considerations for evaluating LM-based approaches\, with a focus on scenarios involving limited or no human response data\, large item pools\, and real-time operational use. The presentation will highlight three central components: \n\n\n\n\nScaling predicted item parameters\n\n\n\nIdentifying and addressing edge cases\n\n\n\nEstablishing evaluation criteria for generated samples\n\n\n\n\nDrawing on multiple studies\, Dr. Choi will share practical examples\, potential solutions\, and open questions that continue to shape this emerging field \n\n\n\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Aligning AI with Assessment Standards: A Case Study of Evaluating AI-Generated Reading Passages for NAEP
DESCRIPTION:This is presented by the Large-Scale Assessment SIGIMIE. \n\n\n\nThe on-going revision of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing has drawn significant attention\, particularly in the context of leveraging AI techniques in today’s digital environment. A central question is whether AI can measure up to standards\, and how AI and humans can collaborate effectively to advance assessment operations in test design\, administration\, scoring\, and reporting while upholding the essential principles of assessment in reliability\, validity and fairness. This talk will provide an overview of the key elements of AI that can be leveraged within the standards\, followed by a case study to illustrate these ideas in practice. Specifically\, the case study introduces a framework for evaluating the difficulty alignment of reading passages when AI is used to automatically generate tasks for NAEP across different grade levels. It also examines the effects of generating passages with varying concepts\, such as fiction and non-fiction\, to highlight both opportunities and challenges in applying AI to educational measurement. \n\n\n\nThis session will be led by Qiwei He\, Georgetown University. \n\n\n\nRSVP Now
