During this three month trial period the following two workshop webinar series are being offered FREE through July 15, 2012:
Vertical Scaling Methodologies, Applications, and Research
Presented by Michael J. Kolen, University of Iowa and Ye Tong, Pearson
The potential need for constructing a vertical scale arises whenever a testing program has multiple grade levels and wishes to have a common scale to compare test scores across these grade levels. The focus of this series is on developing a conceptual understanding of vertical scaling through numerical examples and discussion of practical issues. There are five sessions in the series:
- Introduction and Scaling Perspectives
- Structure of Tests and Data Collection Designs
- Vertical Scaling Methods
- Vertical Scaling Example and Vertical Scales in State Assessments
- Limitations, Practical Considerations, and Research in Vertical Scaling
Impacting Learning through the use of Formative Assessment
Presented by Julia Payne-Lewis and Stuart R. Kahl, Measured Progress
Formative assessment is effective within the larger framework of a comprehensive assessment system. In this session, the presenters take a look at the research about formative uses of assessment results from a practical vantage point and provide ways to transform theory into real-world practice. The focus of this session is to prepare educators to take these skills and ideas back to their classrooms, schools, and districts, and to support discussions about how to engage in formative uses of assessments with colleagues. There are three sessions in this series:
- Introduction to Formative Assessment and Strategies
- Examples of Learning Targets and Formative Assessment Strategies
- Formative Assessment Strategies.
