Help Us Celebrate!
NCME will be celebrating its 75th anniversary at the 2013 annual meeting in San Francisco. The Anniversary Planning Committee is preparing a variety of activities for this celebration and needs your help. Please take a look at the activities below and consider volunteering your talents and skills to bring these plans to fruition.
NCME Timeline Display: Volunteers are needed to help with the creation of the NCME Timeline Display. The plan is to gather artifacts from NCME’s history and to use them to create a timeline to summarize the history of NCME.
- If you can help with ideas for how to identify mechanisms for getting donations and determining how to best represent NCME’s timeline, please contact Barbara Plake (bplake@unl.edu).
- If you have items that can be donated for this display, please contact Neal Kingston (nkingsto@ku.edu).
Analysis of Topics Presented in NCME Journals and at the Annual Meetings: Volunteers are needed to identify and summarize issues and topics in measurement that have changed over time as represented in NCME publications and annual meetings. The overall goal of this subcommittee is to present the findings during the 2013 annual meeting, and potentially in EM:IP. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Gretchen Anderson (ganders@ku.edu)
Time Capsule: A time capsule will be prepared that will contain artifacts representing the current state of the measurement profession and of NCME as an organization and its members, as well as predictions for the future. The time capsule will then be opened in 2038 when NCME turns 100. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Karoline Jarr (karoline-jarr@uiowa.edu).
Measurement and Multimedia: The "agony" of testing is an ever-present topic of discussion in television and films. This subgroup will synthesize the ways in which multimedia has been used to portray ideas about testing, with the goal of presenting findings during the 2013 annual meeting and igniting discussions about how to redefine our industry in the popular media over the next 75 years. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Anita Rawls (arawls@collegeboard.org).
Gala Event: NCME’s 75th anniversary celebration at the 2013 annual meeting will include two special events—a roast of the field where members showcase their comedic talents and research themed parodies or original songs (in any musical genre). Stay tuned for email blasts with specific calls for volunteers!
